Through the ages the Ionian islands have been at the
centre of many conquests and battles and as a result the
culture of the islands has been influenced by an assortment
of empires and nations including the Romans and Venetians.
Fiskardho which is the most famous place in Kephalonia is
up market, expensive, almost extremely pretty, and a nucleus
of a tourist magnet especially for the yachting fraternity
that moor up along harbour. The buildings here are older
than you find elsewhere and the back streets are fascinating
to walk around..
