Zakynthos is the largest and greenest island in the Ionian
sea.
Marvellous landscapes and fantastic sandy beaches offer

Zakynthos is particularly rich in terms of biodiversity
. The high rainfall created a fertile environment of trees
and forests, with a wide range of rare flowers and plants.
The local environment has become an object of international
interest because the loggerhead turtle Caretta-caretta,
(an endangered species protected by international conventions
and Greek legislation) lays its eggs on the island's shores.
Greece is preparing to create a National Marine Park in
the Bay of Laganas with the sole purpose of protecting these
rare species.
